We are delighted to share that Roma culture, identity and women’s perspectives will be featured as part of Researchers’ Night in Hungary, one of the country’s major public events bringing research, knowledge and society closer together.
The programme “Tradition, Fashion, Identity – Roma Women’s Culture in the 21st Century” will take place at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Debrecen in Nyíregyháza.
Through a special fashion show accompanied by music and discussion, participants will explore traditional Roma women’s clothing as well as its contemporary interpretations. The programme will highlight the cultural significance of clothing, colours and traditions, and how these can contribute to preserving and expressing Roma identity today.
The fashion show will be followed by an open discussion on Roma culture, the role of Roma women in society, the preservation of identity, and ways to recognise and challenge stereotypes and prejudice.
By combining culture, fashion, music and personal dialogue, the event aims to bring people from different social and cultural backgrounds closer together and promote mutual understanding, acceptance and respect.
These themes are also at the heart of Roma RISE, which seeks to strengthen Roma participation, visibility and dialogue across Europe. We are therefore especially happy to see them reaching a wider public through Researchers’ Night in Hungary.
